Ultrasonic propagation, ultrasound interactions with defects. Non-contact generation and detection of ultrasound, particularly using either EMAT or laser-based techniques. We are studying the alternative methods of generating ultrasound without contact with the test-piece. We have a range of pulsed lasers for generation and laser interferometers for detection in addition to miniature EMATs. Industrial applications are investigated on hot or rough or thin or moving components.
